SMAC

Social, Mobile, Analytics, Cloud or SMAC-enabled HR technologies are revolutionizing our industry, smacking human resources with powerful tools to support their company’s Digital Workplace vision by providing Digital HR applications which connect with the modern workforce.

We have all been told, by now, of the millennial rock stars who won’t work for us unless we connect with them in the world they rock – and it’s true!

You not only need to empower employees and managers to keep them engaged, but you must also enable them – people enablement is key to productivity.

People Enablement

HR Technology is a big driver for people enablement. Alas, the reader is likely feeling troubled with the notion of costly technology investments, a platoon of expensive onsite technology consultants, and months turning into years of project timescales that never seem to

Conference Season!

With all the big HR Tech shows around the corner, Dovetail will be exhibiting at a few of the biggest: Workday Rising in Las Vegas, HR Technology Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, and HR Tech World Conference in Paris, France, It’s a good idea, as an attendee, to start planning to maximize your time spent at these events.

As a Former HR Tech Buyer

So, as a former buyer of HR Technology myself, here are 5 tips/ suggestions/ ideas from me to help you get the most from your T&E investment:

Tips for the Attendee (and the vendors!)

1. BE ORGANIZED.  Ahead of time, read through the conference agenda and plan which sessions you want to attend. Most companies

“Look For Vendors…”

Not too long ago, I read Starr Conspiracy’ blog post titled “The ADP and Zenefits Kerfuffle, part 2: 5 Lessons for HR Technology Customers and Vendors” from HR Tech analyst and go-to market expert George LaRocque.  A great point was shared which continues to stick with me today:

“Look for vendors that support their integrations like a product – not a service.”

Sound Advice

This is sound advice to the HR Technology buyer. Not only because buyers don’t want what happened to Zenefits customers to happen to them, but also to consider these

5 reasons partner-built integrations are a sound investment

Technology Stack – A supported partner integration has been built with both parties being involved.  This means their technology stack has

We’re celebrating today, because we are officially a Workday Certified Solution Partner – yes we graduated from the hottest HCM integration university this summer!

Commitment Pays Off

Two years ago, Dovetail made a commitment with Workday to design, build, and deliver a real time bi-directional integration to help serve the Dovetail and Workday ecosystem, cohesively. It’s a true win-win outcome for both vendor and customers – as anyone with software implementation experience will tell you – getting two technologies integrated together on a project is never easy. One very big pain with custom integrations is accountability – when things go wrong, who is accountable? Is it your internal IT, or perhaps vendor one or vendor two – maybe it’s all three? Which one will own the problem and drive

Recently, I wrote about the Sierra-Cedar HR Systems Survey, and how that survey helped me to get multi-million dollar funding for new HCM technology.  While I was writing that entry, it made me think of the next step of the HCM buying process: vendor selection.

In one of my previous roles, I was tasked with evaluating the current technology in place, then providing strategic direction of what to do with our existing HR technology – and how it would benefit our to-be designed HR Shared Services organization.

Once I could prove the most cost-effective long-term strategy for the firm was a rip-and-replace of old for new, I then set my focus on building out our requirements and the vendor selection strategy.

I’ve never been a

Workday Power of One - ThinkstockPhotos-485079267As I wrote about in my previous blog post Barbie SaaS HCM technology, I recently read another blog post which reinforces true SaaS.  Take Workday’s Power of One, they are at the opposite spectrum of a “Barbie SaaS”, check out their recent Power of One blog post to learn more.

Essentially, Workday has one version of software, one customer community, and one codeline.  This is what makes our partnership with Workday so strong, the identical nature of our Dovetail SaaS HR Help Desk offering – even better when you factor in our real-time integration to Workday.  You can quickly see how a joint customer can leverage two vendors

hr systems, hr saas, fake cloud systemsI took the title and input for this blog from John Hoebler’s, Technology Lead at CrossCountry Consulting, excellent post recently entitled, “Don’t be fooled by ‘fake cloud’ finance systems” – I changed the title ever so slightly, to really place emphasis on the level of fabricated fashion in today’s SaaS vendor space, and of course it’s important to HR professionals too!

One can immediately see the Barbie® doll, and recognize it’s not a reality – it’s easy to do that from one glance. However, SaaS (Software as a Service) is hidden from view, under the hood, safe and sound…or is it?

Real SaaS vendors might start to

It’s simply the greatest feeling working for a SaaS (Software as a Service) provider! The continuation of update after update not only motivates our customers but also our employees.  We also continue to push the bar in the HR Service Delivery world.  How can the competition keep up at our pace; well, they can’t.

We continue to ship 3-4 updates per year, and we can do this because we have a true SaaS model. All our customers speak the same language because they are ALL on the same version. Our customer support team are empowered and efficient, because they only need to learn one product, and our R&D is focused on the next version.

With this latest release we have added a real time integration between Dovetail Employee Engagement Suite and Workday.  We are a Workday partner, which provides us

Who cares what engine is in the hire car, who cares if the oil needs changing, who really cares if the radio is a bit faulty, who even cares the breaks need servicing, or the tyres have a bald patch – erm, yes those bits we really do care about.

Thankfully there are laws, and standards in place to avoid this.  Sadly, the same cannot be said about the SaaS (Software as a Service) technology industry.

Dovetail Software partners with Amazon Web Services to host the Dovetail Employee Engagement Suite (Dovetail EES). We took a strategic decision to host with Amazon, who have been recognised several times as the clear leader by Gartner in Cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) category, as we knew
