Not Much Has Changed

When I first started recruiting in healthcare fifteen plus years ago, it seemed like all that was talked about was the nursing shortage. The conversation is ongoing and, sadly, hasn’t changed much. This Healthcare HR trending topic is addressed by many – the topic is addressed – but, not the issue.

Employee Engagement > Retention

For many years, we have been talking about how employer branding and employee engagement leads to the retention of quality talent.

“The talent shortage isn’t going to go away any time soon, but just like any other industry, healthcare can look to leverage partners to assist with systems and best practices to attract the kind of people you need..” – Dan White, President of Workforce Solutions at AMN Healthcare

Why I Care

My first “HR” job, if you will, was as a sourcer for a healthcare-specific executive search firm. This job changed my life. No, seriously. Several things happened.

I fell in love with recruiting, every part of it — EXCEPT telling someone that they didn’t get the job – that remains, to this day, one of the “work duties” I have disliked most. After having spent 20 years in the dental field, I transitioned easily to healthcare, and really grew to the love the business of healthcare. I realized that I had a mind for business and I quickly changed my major from Education (I had wanted to teach junior high – I know – I’m nuts!) to Business and adjusted mind-blowingly quickly to a corporate mindset. The sales professional in me found a new and exciting home

It’s Back!

Carnival of HR: I feel like we just finished sweeping up the popcorn and peanut shells from last time, and yet here we are!

I’m always excited to get to host the carnival.  It’s a great chance for us to stay connected to the HR community that means so much to us, and to share our platform with great authors in our space.  Thanks to all of you for visiting and reading.  Please take a few minutes to check out the links.

Theme: Conferences

Our theme, loosely applied as always, is around conferences.  We do a lot of them, and we were very much looking forward to SHRM16 this month.  We’ve realized, though, that the show starts on Father’s Day this year.  That’s happened in the past, and it usually kills off any chance of attending for me.
