HR Brit is Coming To America: Part 1
I’ve recently joined Dovetail Software as Chief Strategy Officer; my role is to build the company’s vision, focus on product strategy and to identify key strategic alliances that will benefit the firm, our partners and ultimately our customers. Where did I come from I hear you ask…
Firstly I’m a Brit from across the pond, so I started my career in an English town in Surrey called Woking, sitting on a Customer Support desk working for a company that sold Helpdesk products, which is where I learnt the importance of excellent Customer Service and Support!
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) seemed like an ideal career for me, I have a thirst for knowledge and thrive on sharing what I know with others. CRM took off in a big way, especially in Europe, where I spent 11 years working on large CRM projects ($240m+). I handled Roles such as: Developer, Business Analyst, Architect, and Project and Program Manager, before finally realising that I had reached in CRM what I would like to think compares to Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers 10,000 hour Rule, thus wanted a change in scenery and new challenges.
This new direction led me to the wonderful world of Human Resource Management (HRM). I took a role in one of the largest UK Defence and Government contractors to head up the HR MI and HR IT teams across the group. Having a firm grasp of Systems and IT from the CRM days, the HR piece completed the circle by adding people management to my portfolio. I went on to lead the implementation of an HR Shared Service Centre that increased the HR Service Delivery ratio to Employees by 200%. I firmly believe the efficiencies and automation skills I had learnt in CRM were the backbone reason for this high gain.
However, it was clear the travel bug was still inside me, for it wasn’t long before I was jetting off to head up the position off VP Global HRIT for Renaissance Capital, an emerging markets Investment Bank based in Moscow, Russia. I was to investigate HR Technology for the group, and recommend a new HR Technology strategy. My strategy was simple; less on premise more in the cloud – rip and replace, out with the old in with the new. Ultimately this resulted in the implementation of technologies such as: Workday and Jobvite.
Almost two years later, and I find myself in Austin, Texas. When will this rollercoaster stop!
I had heard of Dovetail Software whilst I was working in CRM projects in the early 2000’s, I had been a customer and I became a customer again in early 2010 when a panel of 10 HR and IT executives selected “Dovetail Support Suite for HR” to be used in the company HR Shared Service Centre. I was so impressed with the implementation and product, and our quick ROI, I knew this was a firm to keep an eye on!
It was also at this point I recognised that all those years spent in Customer Relationship Management, were going to propel my success in HR Service Delivery and HR Shared Services.
That is why I am here at Dovetail Software! On that note, I would love to hear from you, I may be contacted on either my email; kfrisby@dovetailsoftware.com or my twitter handle is @KaneFrisby.
