5 Reasons for Partner-Built Integrations

September 8, 2015 "Look For Vendors..." Not too long ago, I read Starr Conspiracy’ blog post titled “The ADP and Zenefits Kerfuffle, part 2: 5 Lessons for HR Technology Customers and Vendors” from HR Tech analyst and go-to market expert George LaRocque.  A great point was shared which continues to stick with me today:   “Look for vendors that support their integrations like a product – not a service.”   Sound Advice This is sound advice to the HR Technology buyer. Not only because buyers don't want what happened to Zenefits customers to happen to them, but also to consider these 5 reasons partner-built integrations are a sound investment   Technology Stack - A supported partner integration has been built with both parties being involved.  This means their technology stack has been understood by both sides, and the integration is working within the boundaries of their…

Dovetail Launches Certified Workday Integration to Assist HR in Tracking Daily Activities

August 23, 2015 Celebrate! We’re celebrating today, because we are officially a Workday Certified Solution Partner – yes we graduated from the hottest HCM integration university this summer! Commitment Pays Off Two years ago, Dovetail made a commitment with Workday to design, build, and deliver a real time bi-directional integration to help serve the Dovetail and Workday ecosystem, cohesively. It’s a true win-win outcome for both vendor and customers - as anyone with software implementation experience will tell you - getting two technologies integrated together on a project is never easy. One very big pain with custom integrations is accountability – when things go wrong, who is accountable? Is it your internal IT, or perhaps vendor one or vendor two – maybe it’s all three? Which one will own the problem and drive through to resolution, and not just point fingers? Continued Commitment With a…

Building Reminders in Dovetail Employee Engagement Suite

August 11, 2015 Employee Engagement Suite   The Dovetail Employee Engagement Suite (EES) was designed around a few simple ideas.   Our clients are smart. Our clients deserve to be able to build and modify their own configuration in ways that suit them. Our clients sometimes have better ideas than we do.   To that end, we purposefully built a system that is all about configuration choices.  This leads to my answering a lot of questions with, "It depends." Does the system notify you when you get a new case?  It depends. Do I have to log in to see my alerts? It depends. Can I have a hug?  It depends.  (OK, that one usually is a yes.  But you get the point.) Why is "It depends" the answer?  Because the question of "does it" depends on "have you told it to?"  Have…

The HCM Buying Process – Vendor Selection Strategy

employee portal
July 20, 2015 Recently, I wrote about the Sierra-Cedar HR Systems Survey, and how that survey helped me to get multi-million dollar funding for new HCM technology.  While I was writing that entry, it made me think of the next step of the HCM buying process: vendor selection.   In one of my previous roles, I was tasked with evaluating the current technology in place, then providing strategic direction of what to do with our existing HR technology - and how it would benefit our to-be designed HR Shared Services organization.   Once I could prove the most cost-effective long-term strategy for the firm was a rip-and-replace of old for new, I then set my focus on building out our requirements and the vendor selection strategy.   I’ve never been a fan of large RFPs that basically allow the vendor to tick boxes,…

SHRM Poetry and Building Tradition

No Kid Hungry
June 25, 2015 A Little History Three years ago, I was goaded into playing street hockey in Atlanta in the middle of summer. Two years ago, Jonathan Brewer and I put together one of the greatest kickball games HR has ever seen. Last year, we celebrated The Big Lebowski in a Orlando bowling alley. All of there were great fun, and were done in the spirit of changing the world.  And in the process we’ve raised a significant amount of money for those who need a little help.  And many of you have come along for the ride. Today This year, we are going in a slightly different direction.  At the SHRM Annual Conference next week, we will be hosting a Poetry Slam, and are partnering with Quantum Workplace, Broadbean, Dice and Branded Strategies in our support for No Kid Hungry. Dice is…

Childhood Hunger in America

HR Service Delivery
June 23, 2015 No Kid Hungry Would you be surprised to know that there are hungry children in America? Especially right now – the summer months are very hard for children who no longer receive supplemental meals from their schools. Dovetail Software is responding to this knowledge by, once again, raising awareness and hosting an event at the SHRM 15 National Conference June 28 – July 1 in Las Vegas. Joining us in this effort are our fellow event sponsors Quantum Workplace, Broadbean Technology, and Branded Strategies. Our #SHRMpoetry campaign launched last week and is gaining attention as more and more in the HR industry become aware of childhood hunger in America; 1 in 5 children do not receive the nutrition they need on a daily basis. We want to help. Please join us in our fight to end childhood hunger in America…

HR, Still the “Ugly Step-Child” When it Comes to Technology

August 5, 2014 Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the HRSSI Conference in Atlanta. The conference is a Human Resources (HR) Shared Services event for HR Executives and Jim Scully has done a nice job of marketing to that particular audience with content rich in information without the SALES pitch of other HR Shared Services shows.  It is appropriately named the HRSSI Shared Service Institute Executive Retreat. I came away from the HRSSI retreat with a few new friends and some valuable insight on current trends, challenges and what technology solutions are prevalent in HR Shared Services today. Many of the scheduled presenters had solid metrics that they were willing to share and discuss. I left with a burning question though…why are so many of Fortune Top 500 Companies forced to use their  IT Departments CRM solution/technology to manage the complex HR…

HR Shared Services Summit

May 6, 2014 Dovetail Software is a sponsor of the 15th HR Shared Services and Outsourcing Summit in Chicago, May 19-21st. The show itself provides an opportunity for HR professionals to network with vendors and other HR Shared Services leaders as well a gain insight from industry leaders on a vast array of topics facing today's HR shared service organizations. The conference is being held in downtown Chicago at the Marriott.   My colleague and friend Dwane Lay will be leading a pre-conference workshop Monday afternoon at 3:30 on data security in a session titled “Data Data Everywhere”. For those of you that haven’t met Dwane, this is your chance and you’re in for a treat. Dwane heads up our HR Process Design at Dovetail, he's a Six-Sigma Black Belt and a LEAN HR guy. In other words, he knows his stuff and…

Do you ask your Software Vendors the Right Questions During the Selling Process?

December 10, 2013 I try to make as many visits to prospects, both to show Dovetail’s commitment, and also to get a sense as to what is going on in the market segments we compete in. During these presentations we talk about who Dovetail is and then go into a detailed demo of our product. Most of the questions the prospects ask relate to our product – what does our product do, how does the implementation work, and how good is the security of our product. All good questions, but they may not tell you everything you should know about the vendors competing for your business.   Here are a number of other questions customers should ask and why they are important:   1) Tell us how you deal with the problems that will develop during implementation, and give me an example? We…

Providing Consistent HR Service Delivery – Can you Achieve Perfection?

March 26, 2013 Perfection. A laudable goal to strive for, but one rarely achieved. As I was reading a blog post by SystematicHR (Wes Wu) last week concerning HR Service Delivery, Global or Regional: HR Service Delivery Should Always Be Perfect , my first thought was, “How could Wes think that HR Service Delivery could ever be perfect?”, but as I read further I realized that Wes was just using the goal of perfection to speak towards continual improvement in your HR Service Delivery with the real goal of providing consistent HR service delivery for all employees.   Wes and I agree on the goal; we even agree that you need to capture important information to increase the chances of providing better service delivery. The problem with Wes’ suggestion is it assumes that your HR Service Center can first identify the information you want to…
